About What's For Dinner

What's For Dinner is a one-person project. I'm Bret, and I built the iPhone app to end the nightly “what should we eat?” standoff. This website is its companion: a home for recipes, a few free tools, and answers when something in the app isn't working.

The app

You keep a list of the dinners your household actually eats. When it's time to decide, roll for tonight's pick, or let everyone vote and settle it in seconds. The app is free to download, with an optional Premium plan for households that want to share a list and decide together. If you have a question or something breaks, the support page has answers, and you can message me directly.

The recipes

The recipes are everyday weeknight dinners, and most were shared by family and friends. Each one is credited by name where it came from. Alongside the ingredients and steps, every recipe has notes on getting it right, swaps, and how to store and reheat leftovers. They also double as sample meals inside the app.

Photos marked “Illustrative image” aren't of the finished dish. They're being replaced with real photos as they're taken. Browse them all on the recipes page or by theme in dinner ideas.

The tools and games

The dinner picker works right in your browser with no install: type in a few dinners and it picks one. The food games are free daily puzzles for when you want something to do while you decide. None of it needs an account, and nothing you type or score is sent to me. It stays in your own browser.

How this site is paid for

Running the app and the site costs real money. It's supported by the app's optional Premium plan, tips from readers through Buy Me a Coffee, and some pages may show ads. The home, about, support, contact, and privacy pages never do. The privacy policy explains exactly what's collected and why.
