Frequently asked

Is my data private?
Your dinners are saved on your device, and there are no accounts. If you turn on household sync or use a voting room, the shared dinners are stored on Google Firebase so everyone in that household can see them. Anyone who has your household code can view and change the shared list, so only share it with people you trust. The full details are in the privacy policy.
Does it work without internet?
Your list, the roll, and your plan work offline. Household sync, voting rooms, and importing a recipe from a website need a connection.
How do I share my list with my household?
Open Settings, find the Household section, and tap Create a household. Share the 4-character code shown there. On their phone, they open Settings, tap Join a household, and enter the code. You'll share your meal list, tonight's pick, and cooking history.
How do I leave a household?
In Settings → Household, tap Leave household. Your phone goes back to its own local meal list, and everyone else keeps sharing theirs.
Someone I don't trust has my household code. What do I do?
Leave the household, create a new one, and have the people you trust join with the new code. Then contact us with the old code and we'll delete the old household's data.
How do I back up my dinners or move to a new phone?
In Settings → Data, tap Export a backup and save the file somewhere safe, such as the Files app or iCloud Drive. On the new phone, tap Import a backup and choose that file.
How do I add a recipe from a website?
Open the recipe in Safari, tap the share button, and choose What's For Dinner from the share sheet. It works with any recipe page, including ours.
How do I get a dinner reminder?
In Settings → Notifications, turn on Daily dinner reminder and choose the time. It's skipped on days when tonight's pick is already confirmed.
How do I stop the same dinner coming up again?
In Settings → Roll rules, use Don't repeat within to set how many days must pass before a dinner can come up again. You can also cap weeknight prep time there.
How do I add the widget?
Press and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap the + button, search for What's For Dinner, and choose a size.
I found a bug. What should I include?
The more specific, the faster it gets fixed: what you tapped, what you expected, and what happened instead. Your iPhone model and iOS version help too. Send it through the contact form and choose Something's broken.
Can you add a feature?
Maybe. I build this app based on what people ask for, and I read everything. Send your idea through the contact form.
How do I delete my data?
Delete anything in the app whenever you like, and uninstalling the app erases what it stores on your phone. To have a household's synced data, or anything you sent through this website, deleted, contact us with your household code.
