Privacy Policy

The app has no accounts and no ads, and it doesn't track you. Your dinners are saved on your device. If you turn on household sync or join a voting room, the dinners in that household or room are stored on Google Firebase so everyone in it can see them. This website collects only what you type into its forms.

Your dinner list, tags, prep times, notes, favorites, cooking history, weekly plan, photos, and settings are stored on your device. Photos you attach to a meal are never uploaded. They stay in your device's local storage, and the app only asks for photo or camera access when you choose to attach one.

The home screen widget and Siri read tonight's pick from storage shared with the app on your device. Reminders you turn on are scheduled on your device. The app doesn't use push notifications.

If you use household sync or a voting room, the app stores the shared information in a Google Firebase Realtime Database. For household sync that is your dinner list (names, tags, prep times, notes, favorites, recipe links), your cooking history, tonight's pick, and your weekly plan. For voting rooms it is the options and votes in that room. Photos are not included.

There are no accounts. A household or room is identified by a short code. Anyone who has your code can view and change the shared list, so share it only with people you trust. We don't link this data to your name, email, or device.

Synced data is kept until it is removed. You can delete dinners in the app at any time. To have an entire household's synced data deleted, contact us with the household code.

When you import a recipe from a web address, by pasting a link or using the iOS share sheet, the app contacts that website directly to read the page. That website can see the request, and its own privacy policy applies. We don't receive a copy of the page or the link.

Contact form. If you send us a message, we collect the name, email address, topic, and message you enter, and store them so we can read and reply. Launch list. If you sign up for the launch notice, we store your email address to email you about the launch. We use both only for those purposes, and we don't sell or share them. Ask us to delete yours at any time.

Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run and secure the service.

Ads. Recipe pages may show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show and measure ads, including ads based on your interests. You can manage this at Google's Ads Settings and learn more at how Google uses information from sites that use its services. The home page and the contact page don't show ads.

Google (Firebase, and AdSense on recipe pages) and Vercel process data on our behalf as described above. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising or profiling in the app.

What's For Dinner isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

You can delete anything you've added in the app, and uninstalling the app erases what it stores on your device. For synced data, or for anything you've sent through this website, contact us and we'll delete it.

If we change how the app or site handles information, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
